Newton Field Centre runs short courses, covering a wide range of environmental subjects within the science curriculum, for primary and secondary schools. Weekends and evening courses for the public (lifelong learning) are offered on a variety of subjects, including natural history, music and photography.

There is an excellent range of habitats and sites within walking distance of the centre for ecological and geographical fieldwork.  These include ancient and recent woodlands, abandoned ironstone quarries, various aquatic habitats, farmland and the villages of Newton and Geddington. The stretch of the River Ise near the field centre is one of the best examples in Northamptonshire of a lowland river on clay and has been designated a Site of Special Scientific Interest.

A former arable field that separates the field centre from the River Ise is now managed by the centre as an educational nature reserve. This project has been undertaken in conjunction with the local farm and landowner and is funded by the Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs through the Countryside Stewardship Scheme.
